Terms of Use
The agreement between you and the company behind SEO Merlin. Written to be read, not to be skipped — the sections that matter most are 6, 11 and 12.
Last updated: 21 July 2026 · Applies to: the SEO Merlin WordPress plugin, free and premium editions
1. Who these terms are with
These terms are between you and:

support@seomerlin.com
By installing or using SEO Merlin, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not install the plugin.
A note on purchases. Premium licences are sold by Freemius, Inc., who act as the merchant of record. Your purchase is governed by the Freemius End User License Agreement. Where these terms and the Freemius agreement conflict on matters of payment, billing, or refunds, the Freemius agreement governs. These terms govern your use of the software itself and the support we provide.
2. What SEO Merlin is
SEO Merlin is a WordPress plugin that examines your site, reports search-engine optimisation problems, and — where you approve it — changes your site’s content and settings to address them.
It runs entirely on your own server. We do not host it, and we cannot see your site.
Two editions:
- Free, distributed through WordPress.org under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later.
- Premium, distributed by Freemius under a commercial licence, with additional features and support.
3. What you need
- A WordPress installation meeting the plugin’s stated minimum versions.
- Administrative access to that installation.
- For features that use external services — AI writing, keyword data, backlink data — your own account and credentials with those providers. We do not supply them, and their costs are yours.
4. Your licence
Free edition
The free edition is licensed under the GPL v2 or later. You may use, modify, and redistribute it under that licence.
Premium edition
Your purchase grants a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use the premium edition on the number of sites your plan permits, for as long as your licence is active.
- A Pro licence covers one site.
- A Freelancer licence covers five sites.
- An Agency licence covers ten sites.
Full pricing and allowances are set out on the Pricing page and in the Licence.
The plugin’s PHP code is licensed under the GPL, as WordPress requires. Your commercial licence governs access to updates, support, and premium functionality — not your right to the code itself.
You may not: resell or redistribute the premium edition, share your licence key, remove or obscure licensing functionality, or use one licence across more sites than your plan permits.
5. Subscriptions and renewal
Premium licences are annual subscriptions that renew automatically on the anniversary of your purchase, unless you cancel before the renewal date.
- Freemius will attempt to send a reminder before renewal. Treat it as a courtesy, not a guarantee — email can be filtered or lost. You are responsible for cancelling in time if you do not wish to renew.
- Cancel at any time from your Freemius customer dashboard.
- If your licence lapses, the plugin keeps working, but premium features stop and you stop receiving updates and support.
- If a renewal payment fails, Freemius will retry according to its schedule before cancelling the subscription.
Prices may change. As long as your subscription remains active on the same plan, a price change does not affect your renewal amount.
6. What the plugin changes on your site
This deserves its own section, because it is the heart of what the software does.
SEO Merlin modifies your site’s content and settings. Depending on which fixes you apply, it can edit post content, change SEO titles and descriptions, add structured data, alter image files, write files to your site’s root directory, install a must-use plugin, and change WordPress settings such as your permalink structure.
Nothing is changed without your approval. Every fix shows you what it will do before it does it, and you choose which items to apply.
Most changes can be undone from within the plugin, which keeps a snapshot of your content before each change. Some are inherently irreversible — notably submitting URLs to indexing services, and image compression once originals are removed.
You remain responsible for your site. Keep working backups. We strongly recommend testing on a staging site before applying changes in bulk to a production site.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to use SEO Merlin to:
- generate or publish content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringes someone else’s rights;
- create deceptive content, manipulate search results through misrepresentation, or generate spam;
- attack, overload, or gain unauthorised access to any system, including your own hosting provider’s;
- violate the terms of any third-party service the plugin connects to on your behalf.
You are responsible for what you publish. The plugin can generate text with AI, and you should review generated content before publishing it. We do not review it and cannot vouch for it.
8. Third-party services
Where you enable features that use Anthropic, DataForSEO, SE Ranking, Google, or IndexNow, you use those services under your own account and your agreement with them. Their terms, availability, pricing, and data practices are theirs, not ours.
We are not responsible for changes to their APIs, their pricing, their outages, or their decisions about your account. If a provider changes something that breaks a feature, we will do our best to adapt, but we cannot guarantee continuity of any feature that depends on a third party.
9. Support
Support is provided by email at support@seomerlin.com to customers with an active premium licence.
We aim to be helpful and prompt. We do not guarantee a specific response time, that any particular question can be resolved, or that the plugin will be made compatible with any specific theme, plugin, or hosting configuration.
Support does not include: building custom features, fixing problems caused by other software, SEO consulting, or recovering sites that were not backed up.
10. Updates
Free edition updates arrive through WordPress.org, like any other plugin there.
Premium edition updates are delivered to sites with an active licence. If your licence lapses, the plugin continues to work but stops receiving updates — including security updates. We recommend keeping your licence active for that reason.
We may change, add, or remove features between versions. We will not remove a substantial feature within a subscription term without notice.
11. No warranty
The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the plugin will be error-free, that it will work with every theme, plugin, or host, or that it will produce any particular result.
We make no promises about search rankings. Search engines rank pages according to their own criteria, which they change frequently and do not fully disclose. SEO Merlin implements accepted good practice; it cannot guarantee that your rankings, traffic, or visibility will improve.
Nothing in this section limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be excluded by agreement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages; for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill; or for business interruption — however caused, and even if we were told such damage was possible.
- Our total liability arising out of or relating to the software or these terms is limited to the amount you paid us for the licence in the twelve months preceding the claim.
This limit does not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, including death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, your statutory rights are unaffected by these terms.
13. Indemnity
You agree to hold us harmless from claims arising out of your use of the plugin in breach of these terms, or out of content you publish using it.
14. Termination
You may stop using the plugin at any time by deleting it.
We may terminate your licence if you materially breach these terms — for example by redistributing the premium edition or circumventing licensing. Where the breach can be fixed, we will tell you and give you a reasonable chance to fix it first.
On termination, premium features stop working. Sections 11, 12, and 13 survive.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Material changes will be announced by email or in the plugin. Continuing to use SEO Merlin after a change means you accept the revised terms.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Greece. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Xanthi, Greece.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings there.
EU consumers may also use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform.
17. Miscellaneous
- Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in force.
- No waiver. Not enforcing a provision does not waive it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these terms without our written consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger or sale of the business.
- Entire agreement. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Freemius agreement, are the entire agreement between us regarding SEO Merlin.
